![]() Email Forwarding Services An email forwarding service will give you a new email address. All email that is sent to your "new" email address will automatically be forwarded to your existing email account. That way, you can filter out the spam! If you are using an email package such as "Pegasus Mail" or "Eudora", it is very easy to set up a filter that will direct all mail sent to a certain email address into a separate folder. If you make it a practice to use ONLY the free email address when you are publicising your site to the outside world, you should find that most spam gets filtered out and ends up in this separate folder you set up. Then once a week or once a month, or whenever you feel is appropriate, you can delete the contents of that folder and all the spam is gone. It is worth taking a look from time to time at the email in there, in case somebody has sent you a genuine comment about your site. But at least with this system you won't find that your normal email address gets buried under a landslide of spam! Limitations I advise against using this free email address on your actual site, even though putting your real email address on your site may bring you some spam. The reason is simple: sadly, many spammers and con artists also hide behind the relative safety and obscurity of free email addresses, and so people who are familiar with free email services may feel ill at ease to see that the address on your site is a freebie. free web site, Free E-Mail. email provider
Web-based Email SUMMARY: With web-based email, you use your internet browser to go to the email provider's site, then log in with a user name and password. The email provider stores all your messages for you. Most of the largest free email providers are in the web-based email business since this kind of service is easy to implement and brings repeat visitors to a site. Many services offer extra functions, such as online spell-checkers, personal address books, distribution lists etc. PROS: You can easily log in and collect your email from any web browser; you don't need to configure a program to read your email - great if you're not technically minded! CONS: Many web-based services take advantage of advanced functions such as Java in order to provide an attractive interface. You will therefore need to have a current web browser in order to keep your options open; Netscape Navigator 4.x or Internet Explorer 4.x will be sufficient to access your email. Most web-based services do not match (yet!) the functionality of good email software. You are limited to a relatively small amount of storage space (typically a few megabytes) so you won't be able to keep your old messages for very long before you run out of room! Web-based email services generally show you banner advertisements while you are collecting your mail; many also add a short "tag line" to each message you send, identifying the service you used. This makes it very easy for the recipient to see that you used a free email service! For example:- email provider. Free E-Mail
